Resume Certifications — How to List Certifications the Right Way

Certifications signal validated skill. The right placement makes them easy for recruiters and ATS to find.

Create a dedicated 'Certifications' section after Skills for tech and professional roles. Format: 'Certification Name — Issuing Organization, Year'.

Example: 'AWS Solutions Architect – Associate, Amazon Web Services, 2025'.

Include the issuing body and date. For renewing certs, note the expiry if relevant.

For career changers, put certifications near the top — they prove your new skills faster than experience.

Don't list expired or irrelevant certifications. If a cert is expired but you have continuing education, note it as 'Completed 2023'.

Weave the most important cert into your summary: 'AWS-certified cloud engineer with 6 years of experience.'

For coursework-based credentials (Coursera, bootcamps), list the most relevant ones under Education or Certifications.
