Resume for International Students — Visa-Friendly Tips

International students face extra hiring hurdles. Your resume should address work authorization proactively.

Note your status clearly if it's a plus: 'Authorized to work in the US on OPT (STEM) — no sponsorship required for this role.'

For positions needing sponsorship, be upfront or consult the employer's policy — many filter by it.

Emphasize US-relevant experience: internships, campus jobs, and projects done in the US or for US companies.

Adapt to local norms: US resumes skip photo, age, and nationality; some countries require them. Match the target country.

Quantify your achievements in the local currency/metrics style where relevant.

Highlight English fluency and cross-cultural communication: 'Collaborated with teams across 4 countries.'

Include any work authorization terms (CPT/OPT/H1B timelines) only where the application requests it.
