Software Engineer Resume Guide — Examples and Keywords

A software engineer resume should demonstrate impact, not just responsibilities. Recruiters want to see what you built and what it achieved.

Lead each bullet with an action verb and a metric: 'Built a microservices-based checkout system handling 50K orders/day with 99.95% uptime.'

Highlight your tech stack naturally. Don't just list 'React, Node.js, AWS' — show how you used them: 'Migrated the frontend from Angular to React, cutting page load time by 40%.'

Include system design and architecture achievements: 'Designed event-driven architecture using Kafka processing 1M+ events/minute.'

Project section: For early-career engineers, list 2-4 meaningful projects with tech stack, your role, and measurable outcomes or links.

Quantify wherever possible: users served, latency reduced, cost saved, performance improved, team size led, features shipped.

Keywords that matter for ATS: the languages and frameworks in the JD (Python, Java, Go, TypeScript, React, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, SQL).

Keep it to 1-2 pages. A clean single-column format with standard sections scores best with both ATS and humans.
